Tauntauns were animals on the planet Hoth that were most notably tamed by Rebel Soldiers while they built up their base on the ice planet. These Tautauns that "joined" the rebel alliance, would be used by rebel soldiers on Hoth to aid in scouting the snowy terrain of the planet, forming the Tauntaun troopers. Any tauntauns tamed by the rebellion, if injured, would be cared for by rebel medical droids at the base.
